The Del Mar contest travels from a point off of the Catalina West End on to Catalina Harbor located on the ocean side of the Isthmus at Catalina Island. The great popularity probably stems from the typically superb weather this time of year, the seemingly tropical island ambiance of Cat. No skippers meeting. The contest is run mid-day Friday, arriving at Cat Harbor mid-afternoon. Awards are presented at a dinner held at the Del Rey Y.C. Cat Harbor facility on Friday evening. Although there are no further official activities pertaining to the contest, skippers typically lay over on Saturday and return on Sunday.
